Phrasal Verbs। Group Verbs List 


Phrasal Verbs or Group Verbs:-

Group Verb কথাটির মধ্যে দিয়ে এটা সুস্পষ্ট যে, শব্দের Group এখানে Verb-এর মতো ব্যবহৃত হয়। যখন Verb-এর সাথে Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে একসাথে একটি Verb-এর মতো আচরণ করে, তখন সেই Verb + Preposition-এর Group কে Group Verb বা Phrasal Verb বলে।

যেমন:- 


1. ‘Give’ Verb-এর সাথে ‘Up’ Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে Phrasal Verb তৈরি হয় ‘give up’।
2. আবার ‘give’ Verb-টির সাথে ‘in’ Preposition যুক্ত হয়ে Phrasal Verb তৈরি হয় ‘give in’।

 Act

1. Act against : 

(work against):- He is acting against his own interest.

2. Act for :

(work on behalf of):- At last he agreed to act for me in this affair.

3. Act on upon :

(Carry out):- Soyel should act on upon his father's advice.

4. Act up to :

(work according) :- He didn't act up to his social reputation.


Ask

1. Ask after :

(enquire about):- Gopal was asking after you.

2. Ask for :

(seek, invite):- Gopal asked for my help.
He is asking for trouble.


Admit 

1. Admit to :

(to get somebody admitted):- Fahim was admitted to class V.

2. Admit to 

(confess):- Finnally, he admitted to his guilt.


Bear 

1. Bear away :

(win):- Gobindo bore away all the prizes.

2. Bear down 

(defeat):- Mohammad Ali is strong enough to bear down all his opponents.

3. Bear up :

(keep up mental strength):- Faith in God bears him up in his troubles.

4. Bear with :

(rear):- Rabinbabu  is bringing up his two nephews.

(achieve successfully):- The skill of Dhoni brought off India's spectacular victory.

7. Bring on :

(cause to happen):- She has wet in rain ; it will bring on his fever again.


Brush 

1. Brush aside :

(dispose of ignore):- Rohit brushed away my objections.

2. Brush off :

(rebuff, dismiss abruptly):- He tried to talk with the girl, but she brushed him off.
